Statement From Candidate For Governor Kelly Schulz On Anne Arundel County Board of Education
February 16, 2022
ANNAPOLIS, MD — Today, candidate for governor Kelly Schulz released the following statement in response to the Anne Arundel County Board of Education’s vote in support of repealing school mask policies:
“Taking responsibility away from parents and forcing healthy children to wear masks is wrong and it’s long past time for this to end statewide. I commend the Anne Arundel County Board of Education for showing the rest of the state what real leadership looks like and standing up for families and students.
“Over the last two years, our children have suffered far beyond what was ever necessary and we will be dealing with the negative consequences of virtual learning, school closures, and forced masking for years to come.
“Imposing a top-down mandate that takes decisions away from parents and puts them in the hands of government bureaucrats is never the right answer. Parents and students should be empowered to make their own personal decisions about their health.
“The State Board of Education and other school systems need to listen to the growing outcry of parents and drop the mask requirements that they have put in place. It’s time to put our children first.”
